Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the anisotropic magnetic field without reducing saturated magnetic flux and to improve the quality of a magnetic medium for vertical magnetic recording by a method wherein Co alloy is used to manufacture the medium. CONSTITUTION:For enhancement of magnetic anisotropy by forming an alloy with Co, it is effective to use rare earth metals, and for example, SmCo5 or Sm2Co17, etc., being the alloy with Sm are useful, and it is desirable to make HA/4piMS (HA: anisotropic magnetic field, MS: saturated magnetic field) as 1.5-10. Therefore to add a little Fe is also effective. Accordingly anisotropic magnetic field can be enhanced without reducing saturated magnetic flux, and quality can be improved.
