PURPOSE:To measure the size of a large object to be measured without enalarging a collimator lens and without degrading measuring efficiency and accuracy in a constitutiong wherein the object to be measured is scanned by two divided parallel beams. CONSTITUTION:The parallel scanning beam B which has passed a collimator lens 4 is divided into two beams by a two division mirror 17 and reflected by a pair of deflecting mirrors 18. A pair of the parallel beams obtained in this way scan the outer edge of the object to be measured 6. After the scanning, the scanning beams are reflected into the same directions by a pair of deflecting mirrors 19 and a combining mirror 20. The value of an outer diameter D=L+l, where L is a width which is not scanned by the scanning beams and l is a width of a dark part after scanning, is displayed through a measuring circuit. Since two divided parallel beams are used, the size of the large object to be measured 6 can be measured without enlarging the collimator lens 4 and also without degarding resolution, measuring efficiency, and accuracy.
