Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of polymeric compounds, amino acids, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals, easily, in high yield and purity, by chlorinating acrylonitrile in the presence of a solid polyvinyl pyridine compound.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by the liquid-phase chlorination of acrylonitrile at 10W60°C for severalWseveral tens hours in the presence of a solid polyvinly pyridine compound(a polymeric conpound containing pyridine group or its quaternary salt, e.g. polymer of 4-vinylpyridine, 2-vinyl-6-methylpyridine, etc.). The yield can be further improved by using calcium carbonate as a cocatalyst. The amount of the pyridine group of the polyvinyl pyridine compound is 0.5W20%mol based on the acrylonitrile, and the amount of the chlorine is 1W1.5moles per 1 mole of the acrylonitrile.
