Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture high purity phosphoric acid having an extremely low iron ion content by adding an iron masking agent to a regenerating agent for regenerating a strongly acidic cation exchange resin used to remove traces of cations from wet process phosphoric acid.
CONSTITUTION: In a method or removing traces of cations contained in an extracted soln. composed chiefly of phosphoric acid, an org. solvent and water with a strongly acidic cation exchange resin, an iron masking agent is added to a regenerating agent for the resin. As the regeneratig agent an aqueous sulfuric acid soln. with about 5W15wt% concn. is used in general. As the masking agent 1 or ≥2 kinds of compounds selected from citric acid, oxalic acid, thiocyanic acid, tartaric acid, EDTA and phosphoric acid are used by about 2W10 times the necessary theoretical amount. Thus, iron ions can be prevented from entering the product from the regenerating agent.
