Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit the repeated use of nonelectrolytic plating liquid using hypophosphoric acid as a reducing agent by a method in which an aged plating liquid is treated with hydrogen peroxide to convert phosphorous acid present into phosphoric acid, and then the composition of the plating liquid so treated is again regulated to a desired composition.
CONSTITUTION: When nonelectrolytic plating is made using a plating liquid containing hypophosphorous acid, the hypophosphorous acid is changed into phosphorous acid and accumulated in the plating liquid. When the accumulated phosphorous acid reaches a concentration, the plating liquid undergoes self-decomposition and its color turns black to lose its plating efficiency. Thus, before reaching the limit concentration of phosphorous acid, or 0.2W0.25mol/l usually, the plating liquid is treated with hydrogen peroxide to convert the phosphorous acid into phosphoric acid and desired amounts of hypophosphorous acid and a metal ion are added to the plating liquid to regulate its composition in order to reuse it as the plating liquid. The plating liquid is not damaged by phosphoric acid, so that the plating liquid can be retreated for regeneration until the phosphoric acid becomes insoluble.
