Abstract
PURPOSE: To drastically reduce the amount of active carbon to be added by specifying the ranges of the concentrations of active carbon and active sludge both present in the aeration tank.
CONSTITUTION: In an active sludge treatment of waste water in an aeration tank in the coexistance of active carbon powder, the sum of concentrations of active sludge and active carbon (MLSS) is specified to 25,000ppm or more with the concentration of active carbon to 20,000ppm or more. This means deteriorated active carbon and surplus sludge are not disposed before MLSS value reaches at least 25,000ppm (with active carbon being about 20,000ppm). Successive operation should be continued while maintaining this high value. In this way, the process greatly reduces the amount of active carbon to be added newly as compared with the conventional process.
