Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an aluminum alloy that has excellent wear resistance and free-cutting property and has a small friction coefficient with the tape and forms surfaces rich in water repellency, by specifying the content of Si, Cu, Mg, Fe and Mn in Al.
CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy that comprises 4.0W8.0wt% Si, 1.5W7.0wt% Cu, 0.5W 2.0wt% Mg, 0.1W2.0wt% Fe, and/or 0.2W3.0wt% Mn, if necessary, at least one element selected from among 0.1W0.4wt% Cr, 0.1W0.4wt% Co, 0.05W0.2wt% Zr and 0.05W 0.2wt% rare earth metal, and the remainder of Al containing inevitable impurities. If the content of Si is less than the lower limit, the wear resistance of the Al alloy becomes insufficient, and if the content of Si is larger than the upper limit, the amount of Si eutectic with Al is decreased and the precipitation of initial Si cryatals begins. Fe and Mn compensate for the absence of high-hardness and high-wear resistance crystal particles such as initial Si crystals and impart wear resistance and dynamic friction properties with the tape. For this reason, it is necessary that each content of Fe and Mn is larger than each lower limit. However, when the content of Fe is larger than the upper limit, coarse particles of Al-Si-Fe are precipitated and the strength and corrosion resistance of the Al alloy are lowered. When the content of Mn exceeds the upper limit, the castability of the Al alloy is lowered and crystal grains are excessively coarsened.
