CONSTITUTION:0.1wt% To lead powder of glass short fibers 2 having a diameter of 10mu and a length of 2mm. are dispersed over a plate packed with a hard anode paste 1, and main parts of the fibers 2 are buried in the plate by pressing, thus a plate is obtained. Owing to the wettability of the glass fiber and existence of spaces, which are developed in the interfaces between the glass fibers 2 and the active material 1 when water disappears during the aging, electrolyte freely flows in and flows out of the above spaces. As a result, the initial performance of a pasted lead acid battery can be increased by increasing surface areas of the plate which contribute to the reaction, and the life of the battery can be extended by preventing the separation of the active material 2.
