Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a solid electrolyte cell having a high operating voltage by using lithium as a bromide active substance and a specific bromine complex as a cathodically active substance.
CONSTITUTION: The lithium metallic plate 1 serves as a cathodically active substance and also an ionic charge transfer complex consisting of bromine and 1-alkylpyridinium of the general formula I (R is an alkyl group and n is the number of bromine atoms) serves as the active substance of the anode 3. The charge transfer complex contains a 3∼6 carbon straight chain alkyl group for R and 9∼13 Br preferably. Also, the anode 3 is obtained by impregnating the foresaid ionic charge transfer complex into a silica gel, having an average grain size of 4 microns or less, an average pore diameter of 170 microns or more, and a specific surface area of more than 300m2/g and then by molding the silica gel. Thus, a cell having an electromotive force of 3V or more and an average operating voltage of 3V can be obtained.
