Abstract

CONSTITUTION: In a gasification furnace wherein a mixed slurry of coal and heavy oil is gasified with an oxygen-containing gas and steam to form a combustible gas, the lining 3 of a refractory material on the inner face of the gas exhaust hole 4 of the gasification furnace 1 consists at least partially of the carbon type refractory material 5, the carbon electrode 6 is placed at the vacant part of the gas exhaust hole 4, a tar-containing formed gas passing through the gas exhaust hole is brought into contact with the arc 7 produced between the carbon type refractory material 5 and the carbon electrode 6, so that the tar contained in the formed gas is decompoed thermally, to give a high-quality gas evolved from the gasification furnace.
