PURPOSE:To control a function as a directional coupler in terms of time of coupling conductive strip lines provided on the 1st and 2nd surface acoustic wave propagation paths, and controlling electric conductivity between adjacent strips. CONSTITUTION:On the 1st surface acoustic wave propagation path A provided on a piezoelectric substrate 1, conductive strip lines 3 are provided, and on the 2nd surface acoustic wave propagation path B, conductive strip lines 4 are also provided; and every line is connected electrically. A thin film 5 which is conductive photoelectrically is formed over those two kinds of strip lines 3 and 4. While the film 5 is not irradiated with light, the film has small electric conductively and a surface acoustic wave 11 inputted to the propagation path A appears on the propagation path B as well and propagates as shown by an arrow 12. Then when the film is irradiated with light, the surface acoustic wave inputted to the propagation path A propagates as it is as shown by an arrow 13, so that no output appears at the propagation path B.
