Abstract

PURPOSE:To relieve a shock due to biting as compared with that of a conventional rolling method and to reduce the excess thickness at the top and bottom parts of a plate, by keeping the roll gap narrower than that of other part and rolling said plate while a part of a rolling material which is failed in biting passes through rolls. CONSTITUTION:A thick plate is rolled by the following procedure while controlling the temp. of a rolling material by cooling it forcibly on the way of rolling. In this case, the side shapes of a steel plate 1 at the exits of the ith pass and the (i+1)th pass between the initial temp. controlling pass and 2-3 passes before the final pass in said rolling step are shown in the figure. That is, reverse rolling is generally used for a thick plate, and then the part which is failed in biting at the ith pass becomes the bitting part at the (i+1)th pass. In this invention, the thickness of the part 2 which is failed in biting is made thin by setting the roll gap at the time when the part 2 of the plate 1 at the ith pass passes through the roll 3, narrower than that of the part through which other parts have passed already.
