Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to prepare superfine particles of BaSO4 easily, by introducing an aqueous solution of BaS and an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid at a specific ratio into a reaction vessel, and stirring the mixed solution vigorously.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of H2SO4 in a concentration of 0.2W5mol/l and an aqueous solution of BaS in a concentration of 0.1W2 mol/l are introduced into a reaction vessel at a ratio to give 0.5W100% excess of BaS based on the H2SO4 continuously. The resultant mixture solution is then stirred vigorously at 30W100°C and reacted for an average residence time ≤10min to give a slurry containing superfine particulate BaSO4 having such a particle diameter distribution to give an average particle diameter of 0.01W0.08μ and the primary particle having a particle diameter ≤0.1μ in the number of 90W95% or more based on the total particles. The resultant slurry is then spray-dried and if necessary pulverized with a hammer to afford the aimed superfine BaSO4.
