Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform orientation treatment of elements having intricate shapes easily without using rubbing machines by performing rubbing of the oriented films after coating of a sealing material. CONSTITUTION:A coating stage of a sealing material is accomplished prior to a coating stage of oriented films and a rubbing stage of oriented films, whereby the need for rubbing masks during rubbing of the orientated films is eliminated, and the need for the cating mask during coating of the orientated film is eliminated. Since no orientated films are interposed between substrates and the sealing material, the adhesive strength of the sealing material does not degrade, and the damage of the oriented films after the rubbing by the coating work of the sealing material are eliminated, thus the defects of the disturbance in the orientation of liquid crystals are prevented. This invention is also adaptable to the case of providing the sealing material on only the one substrate, and this is particularly effective in eliminating the damage of the oriented films.
