Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an air cleaning agent excellent in performance by a method wherein potassium permanganate and phosphoric acid or an acidic phosphate are supported on a powder-form inorganic carrier, which is formed into an appropriate shape.
CONSTITUTION: A powder of permutite, bentonite, activated white clay, kaoline or the like as the inorganic carrier is mixed with about 0.05W0.3wt% (based on the carrier) of KMnO4 powder and with phosphoric acid or an acidic phosphate which contains about 0.04W0.16wt% (based on the carrier) of P2O5. The mixture is kneaded with a small amount of water and is formed into cylindrical bodies having a diameter of about 3mm and a length of about 10mm, which are then dried to obtain the air cleaning agent. As the acidic phosphate mentioned above, an acidic phosphate of Al, Fe, Zn or the like may be used, while as the phosphoric acid, orthophosphoric acid, metaphosphoric acid or the like may be used, in such amounts as to obtain a weight ratio of P2O5/KMnO4 in the range of 0.2W2. Said air cleaning agent makes it possible to remove from air various kinds of malodorous components in addition to SO2, NO and NO2 which can not be removed even by activated carbon.
