Abstract
PURPOSE:To concentrate the distribution pattern of radiation current on a spot, and stabilize the electron beam by surrounding the central part of a signle crystal cathode with parts having a larger work function than that of the said central part. CONSTITUTION:The axial direction of a cathode made of lanthanum hexaboride single crystal is made to correspond to the <100> direction of a lanthanum hexaboride single crystal. The surface of an electron radiating area at the pointed end of the above cathode is constituted of a central part consisting of a (100) surface 301, and crystal surfaces which consist of (111) surfaces 302 and have a larger work function than that of the (100) surface 301.
