Abstract

PURPOSE: To precipitate and separate Mn as MnO2 from a soln. contg. Ni and Co as principal components and Mn as an impurity by keeping the soln. at a specified temp., adjusting it to a specified pH with sulfuric acid, and adding an oxidizing agent contg. Ni(OH)3 or Co(OH)3 so as to provide a specified oxidation-reduction potential.
CONSTITUTION: A soln. contg. Ni and Co as principal components and Mn as an impurity is kept at 40W80°C and adjusted to 0.8W1.8pH with sulfuric acid. An oxidizing agent contg. Ni(OH)3 and/or Co(OH)3 as a principal component is then added to the soln. so as to regulate the oxidation-reduction potential to 800W 1,100mV, whereby the Mn is precipitated as MnO2, and it can be separated and removed.
