Abstract
PURPOSE:To remove the formaldehyde in a microcapsule dispersion by adding dihydroxy acetone in the conditions of 40-75 deg.C liquid temps. and 8.0-12.0 pH to a dispersion contg. residual formaldehyde. CONSTITUTION:The amt. of addition of the dihydroxy acetone used for removal of residual formaldehyde is preferably in a range of >=20% (w/w) and <=80% (w/w) based on the amt. of the formalin used (37% formaldehyde soln.). The pH at the reaction is desirable as the alkalinity is higher, and is more preferably in a 8.0-12.0pH range. When the pH is high, hydroxide of alkaline metals, ammonia, and the like are preferable. Application temps. are a from ordinary temp. to 75 deg.C range, and more preferably a 40-60 deg.C range is effective. The reaction mechanism and effect mechanism of dihydroxy acetone and formaldehyde are unkown at present, but the effect of removal is extremely high and the formaldehyde is removed in a short time. This is also usable in combination with conventional removal methods.
