Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate necessity for separately carrying an adsorbing agent of sulfur oxides as well as necessity for preparing a reducing agent by using a part of fuel coal consistently from the adsorption of sulfur oxides from conversion thereof to elemental sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: The waste gas generated from a boiler 1 is passed through an adsorption tower 2 packed with semi-coke prepared in a coal dry distillation apparatus 4 and issues from a chimney through a purified gas flue 10. The semi- coke saturated with adsorbed sulfur oxides in the adsorption tower 2 is sent into a desorption tower 3 and, after sulfur oxides are desorbed therefrom, returned to the adsorption tower 2. High concn. sulfur oxides taken out of a high concn. SO2 take-out pipe 21 is passed through the packing layer of semi-coke heated to high temp. in a converter 5 to be converted to vapor of elemental sulfur. After conversion, the sulfur vapor is formed into liquid sulfur in a sulfur condenser 7 and recovered as elemental sulfur 8.
