Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the consumption of a desulfurizing agent and reduce an operating cost in a method wherein activated coal adsorbed with SO2 is regenerated and is reused, a high temp. gas containing CO and H2 generated from a dry distilled coal activating procedure is used in an SO2 desorption procedure.
CONSTITUTION: In a desulfurizing method wherein SO2 in an exhaust gas of a furnace 2 using coal as a fuel is adsorbed in an adsorbing tower 5 packed with a desulfurizing agent 13 (activated coal) and above described SO2 adsorbed activated coal 13 is heated in a desorbing tower 16 to desorb SO2 as well as regenerate said coal and, thereafter, this regenerated coal is circulated and reused, in case of subjecting a part of coal to dry distillation in the tower and preparing activated coal 13 by steam 12 in an activating furnace 11, a high temp. gas containing CO and H2 generated from the furnace 11 is used in the SO2 desorbing tower 16 of aforementioned activated coal 13. As a result, the consumption of carbon in the desorption tower 16 is eliminated and the replenishment thereof is made unnecessary resulting in the cost reduction thereof.
