Abstract
PURPOSE: To simultaneously perform regeneration of activated carbon and recovery of S in a single apparatus by reducing sulfuric acid, etc. adsorbed on activated carbon to S in the presence of a carbon substance in a moving bed type regenerator.
CONSTITUTION: Activated carbon of about 4W10mm diameter used in desulfurization of exhaust gas and a carbon substance such as coal or coke of about 1W3mm diameter are introduced into moving bed type regenerator 3 from feed passes 1, 2. Oxygen-free heated gas of 700°C or above is simultaneously introduced from distributor 4 to decomposition-desorb and reduce sulfuric acid, ammonium sulfate, etc. adsorbed on the carbon to S. All of decomposition product gases in regenerator 3 are drawn out of distributor 6 and introduced into condenser 8 through dust collector 7 to liquefy the S, which is then recovered from pipe 9. The tail gas is fed to a combustion furnace. The activated carbon thus regenerated and unreacted carbon substance are discharged onto vibration screen 11 from the bottom of regenerator 3, separated, and recovered and discharged through discharge passes 12, 13, respectively.
