Abstract
A method of regenerating coke-contaminated spent particulate catalyst removed from a hydrocarbon conversion zone, comprising the steps of: (a) introducing said spent catalyst and an oxygen-containing regeneration gas into a first dense bed of fluidized particles and there partially regenerate said catalyst by combustion of said coke and produce partially spent regeneration gas containing CO; (b) passing the partially regenerated catalyst and the resulting partially spent regeneration gas directly from said dense bed upwards in dilute phase into and through a dilute phase transport upstream and there effecting further combustion of coke from said catalyst partially regenerated and also oxidize there at least a portion of said CO to C02 in said dilute phase transport upstream; (c) separating the resulting regenerated catalyst from the regeneration gas; (d) recovering said regenerated catalyst as a second dense bed of particles; and (e) removing regenerated catalyst from said second dense bed to return it to said conversion zone.
