Abstract

1535797 Regenerating catalyst TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 Nov 1976 [7 May 1976 (2)] 48243/76 Heading B1F [Also in Divisions C4 and C5] Granular zeolite catalyst which has been used for cracking hydrocarbons and is consequently contaminated with up to 2% coke is regenerated by burning the coke off in the apparatus shown. Catalyst enters through pipe 103 and is fluidised in the lower part of frusto-conical section 101 by air or other oxygen-containing gas delivered through perforate thimble 105 to create a fluidised bed temperature of 1050-1400‹F. Gas and catalyst overflows from the top of the bed down duct 106, the catalyst is returned to the cracking plant by valve 110 and the gas flows up line 69. A proportion of the catalyst is entrained by the gas and carried out of the bed to the upper part of section 101 of the vessel, where an annular distributor 112 introduces more oxygen-containing gas (equal in oxygen content to up to 10% of the flow from thimble 105) to convert residual CO to CO 2 . The reaction heat is absorbed by the catalyst, most of which falls directly back to the bed while the rest is separated from the gas discharged at 117 by one or more cyclones 113 and returned by line(s) 114 to the bottom of the bed. The catalyst may be exposed to steam to remove residual hydrocarbons before entering pipe 103.
