Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the rate of recovering S from a gas contg. SO2 of high concn. and the rate of effectively utilizing coal by reducing the SO2 to S in two reaction stages different from each other in operation temp.
CONSTITUTION: A gas contg. SO2 of high concn. and feed coal are fed to the 1st reaction stage 1, where they are brought into countercurrent contact with each other at 650W950°C to generate a gas contg. S, H2S and carbonyl sulfide. After removing dust with dust collector 2 the gas is supplied to sulfur condenser 3 and demister 4 to recover the S. The S-free gas contg. H2S and carbonyl sulfide is then mixed with a fresh gas contg. SO2 of high concn. and fed to the 2nd reaction stage 5, where the H2S and carbonyl sulfide are converted into S by the reaction with SO2 at 400W 600°C in the presence of coal as catalyst. After removing dust with dust collector 6 the resulting gas is successively supplied to sulfur condenser 7 and demister 8 to recover S by condensation.
