Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically recover sulfur from high concn. Sox-contg. gas by introducing part of the gas into a carbonaceous granules-packed bed, allowing the resulting gas contg. COS and H2S to join the remaining gas, converting the COS into H2S after removing impurities, and causing Claus reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Part of high concn. SOx-contg. gas is introduced into carbonaceous granules-packed bed 4, and the resulting gas contg. sulfur vapor, COS and H2 is allowed to join the remaining gas. The sulfur vapor is condensed with sulfur condenser 6 and taken out from the bottom. The sulfur-free gas is drawn, freed of impurities with gas treating unit 13, and introduced into H2S reactor 18, packed with hydrogenation catalyst, where the COS, SO2, etc. are converted into H2S, and this exhaust gas is fed to the 1st Claus reactor 22 and the 2nd Claus reactor 32 in order. Sulfur formed in reactors 22, 23 is condensed with condensers 27, 34 and recovered. Thus, sulfur is recovered from high concn. SOx-contg. gas.
