Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover high purity sulfur without clogging an apparatus by converting SO3 and NH3 mixed in vaporous sulfur into SO2 and N2, respectively prior to the condensation separation of the vaporous sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas contg. NOX and SOX is fed to activated carbon- packed absorption tower 2 together with NH3 to decompose the NOX to N2 as well as allow the SOX to be adsorbed. This carbon is supplied to regeneration tower 6 through line 5 and treated at 300W450°C in inert gas to take out high concn. SO2 gas contg. SO3 and NH3. This SO2 gas is fed to the coal- or coke-packed the 1st reactor 8 through line 7 to convert the SO2 into vaporous sulfur, and the mixed gas of the sulfur, SO3 and NH3 is introduced into the 2nd reactor 11 packed with regenerated activated carbon supplied from tower 6. In reactor 11 the SO3 and NH3 are converted into SO2 and N2, respectively by contact with the carbon at ≥250°C, and this mixed gas is fed to condenser 14 through dust collector 13 to condense and separate the vaporous sulfur. The resulting sulfur is recovered from line 15.
