Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover a sulfur as a simple substance from an SO2 utilizing solid coal and to make a catalyst hard to deteriorate, by regenerating a catalyst with gaseous CO or H2 at a low temp., and obtaining gaseous CO, H2 by a partial combustion of coal used for reducing a recovered SO2.
CONSTITUTION: A waste gas 7 from a boiler 1, into which gaseous NH3 is added, is desulfurized and denitrated through a catalytic reactor 2 and then discharged through a line 9. A catalyst, converted into a copper sulfate, is fed into a regeneration process 3 to regenerate a cupric oxide by a gaseous mixture of H2, CO from a line 12, and returned to the reactor 2. On the other hand, a part of SO2-containing gas from the process 3 is concentrated by circulating in a line 25. Thereafter, an SO2 in said SO2-containing gas is reduced to a sulfur of simple substance, by the coal from a line 14, in a recovering process 4 for simple-substance sulfur, and said sulfur is recovered as a liq. sulfur 20 through a condenser 5. A part of a gaseous mixture of H2, CO produced by a partial combustion of coal in a CO/H2 gas-producing process 6, to which said coal remained in the process 4 is fed, is sent to the process 3 as gas for the catalyst regeneration, and the remained gaseous mixture is sent to the boiler 1 to be burned together with a gaseous mixture 19, discharged from the sulfur recovering process.
