Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound easily and economically, in high selectivity of especially monoalkylene glycol, by reacting an alkylene oxide with water in the presence of CO2 using a halogen-type anion exchange material as the reaction catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture composed mainly of the compound of formula II (R1WR4 are H, 1W3C alkyl, 6C aryl, 2W3C alkenyl, or 3W6C cycloalkyl) is prepared by reacting 1mol of the compound of formulaIwith 1W30mol of water in the presence of 0.0001W1mol of CO2 using a halogen-type anion exchange material as the reaction catalyst, at 80W200°C and 2W25kg/cm2G pressure. The above catalyst is suitably a commercially available anion exchange resin substituted with a halogen such as chlorine, bromine, iodine, etc., and the exchange capacity of the catalyst is 0.1W10mol% of the compound of formulaI.
