Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound in high purity and yield, by reacting an alkylene oxide with an alkyl acetate in the presence of a calcined hydrotalcite compound as a safe, easily recoverable and reusable catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An alkylene glycol ether acetate is prepared by reacting an alkylene oxide with an alkyl acetate in the presence of 1W10wt%, based on the alkylene oxide, of a catalyst comprising a calcined hydrotalcite compound (e.g. the compound of formula (M2+ is Mg2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, etc.; M3+ is Al3+, Fe3+, Cr3+, etc.; An- is Cl-, NO3 -, etc.; 0<x<0.33; m is 4W5), pref. Mg6Al2(OH)16CO3. 4H2O obtained as a natural mineral). The calcination is carried out at 400W600°C for 1W10hr, especially at 500°C to attain the maximum basicity. The catalyst thus prepared has high basicity, and the number of the basic sites is the largest in the solid base.
