Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate double images and to make a display of good contrast visible from all directions by using a rear electrode substrate made by forming an inorg. insulation film on the surface of a scattering type substrate and forming a conductive film thereon. CONSTITUTION:A transparent inorg. insulation film 9 is thinly formed by such a method of coating a soln. of an org. compd. of ethyl silicate, tetrabutyl silicate or the like and heating the same, on a scattering type substrate 8 made by oxidizing the surface of metal such as Al or using a sintered plate of Al2O3 power, whereby the rugged surface of the substrate 8 is smoothed. Next, transparent conductive electrodes 10 are formed on the film 9, whereby a rear electrode substrate is made. After the inside of a transparent glass substrate 2 having transparent display electrodes 1 is perpendicularly oriented, both substrates 1, 8 are sealed 5, and a liquid crystal 6 is sealed therebetween, whereby a reflection type liquid crystal element is obtd. When with this element the shadow of the display 1 is viewed at an angle theta from right above the element, the total thickness d2 of the film 9 and the electrodes 10 is small and therefore the length of the shadow l2 does not increase to the extent that it is visible to eyes. Hence, the easy-to-see display is obtained without making the double images visible.
