Abstract

PURPOSE: To heat liquid crystal with good thermal efficiency hence current efficiency for heating by providing heaters on the inside surface of the substrates of a liquid crystal display device or in its spacer in a manner as not to bring into contact with the liquid crystal.
CONSTITUTION: In a heating device of a liquid crystal device used in a low temp. environment such as in extreme of cold weather, heaters 9 are formed in the spacer 7 between the substrates 1 and 4 of the liquid crystal device by transparent conductive films or metal films of Cu, Ni, etc. or formed along the three sides of the spacer 7, or the heaters 9 are formed along the outside periphery of the substrate 1 formed with a transparent insulation film 3 such as SiO2 on display electrodes 2, 2' and are coated with the film 3. Further, a conductive film 10 for heaters is formed on the front surface on the inner side of the back substrate 4; a transparent insulation film 11 such as SiO2 is formed on the film 10; a counter electrode 5 is provided on the film 11, and a transparent insulation film 6 is further formed on the electrode 5. In this way, heating is accomplished rapidly and effectively with less electric power by providing the heaters in proximity in a manner not to directly bring into contact with the liquid crystal.
