Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide superior strength and eliminate an counter electrode by using metal as the material of an opposite side substrate to improve the workability as compared to glass. CONSTITUTION:An electrochromic film and a liq. electrolyte are held between the 1st glass substrate 1 having transparent electrode 2 of tin oxide or indium oxide and the 2nd substrate 4 having a counter electrode to manufacture an ECD cell. At this time, substrate 4 is made of metallic material, and the difference in coefft. of thermal expansion between display side glass substrate 1 and opposite side substrate 4 due to the different materials is eliminated by enameling 9 the metallic material. The enameled part 9 itself functions as a white background plate, so a conventional background plate can be made unnecessary.
