Abstract

PURPOSE:To form locally hardened surface layers having the bond layer fused and formed between the same and an iron base material by coating a mixture of single metallic substances, alloys, C, etc. and a synthetic resin on the surface of the iron material and cooling the same after heating to melt. CONSTITUTION:50-95wt% powder of >=1 of single metallic substances such as Cr, ferrous alloys such as Cr-Fe alloys and hardness impartng non-metallic elements such as C and 5-50% synthetic resin having high decomposition combustion temp., low rates of combustion, and solubility in solvents at ordinary temp. such as vinyl acetate resin are mixed, and a solvent such as acetone is added to the above-mentioned mixture at about 2-4 times the amt. of the above-mentioned synthetic resin, whereby a coating material is prepd. This coating material is coated on the surfaces of the sliding parts of ferrous parts to about 0.5-3mm. thicknesses. While such parts are moved at about 40-20mm./min, the above-mentioned coated parts are quickly and locally heated by an electron beam method or the like, whereby the chill structure of high hardness is formed on the surfaces of the sliding parts.
