Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily carry out the adsorption and release of gaseous hydrogen by forming a container for metallic hydride into a cylinder havng a plurality of metallic protrusions on the inside and a specified sectional shape and putting the container into a container which can be heated and cooled. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of metallic protrusions 11 having superior heat conductivity are attached to the inside of each cylindrical container 7 of Al or the like having superior heat conductivity and an arbitrary section, and a hydrogen feeding pipe 8 made of porous material is set at the central part of the container 7. The container 7 is packed with metallic powder 12 having a property of adsorbing and releasing gaseous hydrogen, it is out into a container 1 provided with a supply inlet 2 and a discharge outlet 3 for a heat medium and a refrigerant, and the pipe 8 in the container 7 is connected to a hydrogen distributing chamber 4 communicating with a gaseous hydrogen pipe 10. In order to facilitate the release or absorption of a large quantity of heat generated or absorbed during the adsorptin or release of gaseous hydrogen, a heat medium or a refrigerant is fed into the container 1. Thus, the density of metallic hydride 12 is not increased by expansion to prevent the deterioration of heat conduction, and the adsorption and release of gaseous hydrogen are easily carried out.
