Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrogen occluding unit easy to handle and capable of efficiently releasing and occluding hydrogen by supporting a metal hydride on a mass of a heat conductive porous material.
CONSTITUTION: A mass of a porous material such as porous nickel having many cells having about 100μW2mm diameter leading to the surface is put in fine powder of a metal hydride such as lanthanum-nickel hydride having about 0.5W10μ particle size. By applying vibration or other method the cells of the porous material are packed with the fine powder to form a hydrogen occluding unit, and such units 4 are packed into pressure resistance container 1. When hydrogen is allowed to be occluded, it is fed under pressure through pipe 2 while cooling units 4 by passing a refrigerant through pipe 3. When hydrogen is utilized, by passing a heat medium through pipe 3, units 4 are heated to release hydrogen from the metal hydride.
