Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the heat conductivity of a hydrogen absorbent made of metallic hydride and enhance the utilization efficiency of the absorbent by pulverizing the hydride to powder and packing the powder into the open cells of a porous molded body with high heat conductivity.
CONSTITUTION: Heat is supplied to a hydrogen absorbent made of metallic hydride to perform the release of hydrogen, or the heat is removed from the absorbent to perform the absorption of hydrogen. At this time, the hydride is finely pulverized to powder, and this powder is packed into the open cells of a porous material with high heat conductivity to supply or remove heat through the material. Iron, copper, nickel, zinc or an alloy thereof is preferably used as the porous material. The metal is required to contain many cells leading to the outside, so it is used in the form of a cellular metal, a molded body having many through holes or the like.
