Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the title alloy to occlude a large quantity of H2 in the form of hydride and to release the H2 easily and rapidly through mild heating by forming the alloy using misch metal, Ni and Cr, Fe, Zn or the like as the alloy components.
CONSTITUTION: The misch metal type title alloy is represented by formula MmNi5-x Ax (where Mm is misch metal, A is B, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, V or Zn and x= 0.01W2, pref. 0.1W1). This product is cheap and can be activated easily. In addn., it is capable of occluding a large quantity of H2 at high density and of releasing rapidly the occluded H2 through mild heating to room temp. or slightly above the temp. Repeated H2 occlusion-release operations do not deteriorate the alloy performance, and hence the alloy holds the initial H2 occlusion power over a long term.
