Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a ternary Ti-Co alloy for occluding hydrogen made of single phase with almost uniform crystal lattice distance by heat treating a ternary Ti-Co alloy at a specified temp. and cooling it.
CONSTITUTION: A ternary Ti-Co alloy represented by TiCo1XAX (where A is Al, B, Ce, Cr, Cu, Fe, La, Mg, Mn, Mo, Nb, Ni, Si, V, Y, Zn, Zr or the like, and x is 0.01W0.5) is heated to 900W1,100°C under reduced pressure, and by cooling the heated alloy by a suitable means, the unstable lattice gaps formed during the manufacture of the alloy are allowed to disappear to obtain a ternary Ti-Co alloy for occluding hydrogen made of single phase. The hydrogen occluding and dissociating characteristics of the alloy at a constant temp. are scarcely changed by pressure in the flat part and the plateau range, and a large amount of available hydrogen is released from the alloy.
