Abstract

PURPOSE:High density, safe hydrogen occlusion is provided for a metallic material which is an alloy having a particular crystal structure, lattice constants and an alloy phase which belongs to laves phase of intermetallic compound. CONSTITUTION:An alloy characterized by an alloy phase essentially consisting of laves phase of intermetallic compound having a crystal structure of a cubic C15 (such as MgCu2) and lattice constant of a ranging from 6.90 to 7.50Angstrom . USE:Hydrogen electrode materials for closed-type storage batteries and fuel celles; materials for hydrogenation reaction; materials for hydrogen storage; hydrogen pressure adjusting materials in closed containers; hydrogen purification materials; and heat-supplying materials that utilizes heat of hydrogenation reaction.
