Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a water purifying agent which prevents eutrophication of rivers by mixing a high polymer material with a metallic colloidal soln. hydrolyzing ferric chloride and a trace amt. of positive chargeable metallic salts.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. consisting essentially of fine or ultrafine particles of ferric chloride and contg. fine or ultrafine particles of metallic salts of aluminum, sodium, calcium, etc. as trace components is prepd. Then, this is hydrolyzed, whereby a sol consisting essentially of iron hydroxide is formed. This metallic colloidal soln. has high positive chargeability, but since it is hydrophobic colloid, it is mixed with a high polymer material, whereby the flocculation of metallic colloid is prevented, and its dispersion is accelerated and stabilized. The water purifying agent obtained by this flocculates or fixes phosphorus compounds of rivers, etc., increases dissolved oxygen in the water and eliminates contaminating particles.
