Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the flocculant which has high flocculating and precipitating capability and is capable of removing colloidal particulates by a method wherein aluminum sulfate is reacted with calcium hydroxide and then zinc chloride is added to the reaction products to obtain a double salt.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of an addition of water, 20W70% of aluminum sulfate and 20W70% of calcium hydroxide are intimately mixed and reacted together at about 10W90°C for at least about one hour. Then, 2W30% of zinc chloride is added to the reaction products and the mixture is maintained in a mixing and reacting condition at about 20W80°C for at least about 30min, and finally an appropriate amount of water is added to thereby obtain an opaque-white pasty flocculant. The flocculant is added to waste liquid in a concentration of about 10W 150ppm and is used with pH adjusted to about 6.5W9 by adding an alkali.
