Abstract

1519291 Basic aluminium chlorosulphate LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 July 1975 [12 Aug 1974] 35490/74 Heading C1A Basic aluminium chlorosulphate solutions are prepared by (i) reacting CaCl 2 with Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 solution at a temperature of at least 90‹C for a period not substantially below 30 mins, (ii) reacting the solution with CaCO 3 , Ca(OH) 2 or CaO at a temperature in the range of 80 to 90‹C for at least 30 minutes, (iii) cooling the solution at a rate such that the temperature falls below 60‹C within about 90 mins measured from the mid point of period of introduction of the CaCO 3 , Ca(OH) 2 or CaO, the amounts of CaCl 2 , CaCO 3 , Ca(OH) 2 or CaO and the reaction period of stage (ii) being so selected that the basic aluminium chlorosulphate solution has an Al:OH mole ratio from 1À0:1À5 to 1À0:2À5 and an Al:SO 4 mole ratio from 1À0:0À05 to 1À0:0À2. The basic aluminium chlorosulphate solution may be used in treating water containing suspended matter.
