Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform butt welding of thick plates through single layer build-up of submerged arc welding and to improve welding speed by preparing the edges of the half parts of plate thickness, subjecting the remaining halves to high frequency welding, and performing submerged arc welding of the groove part after pressure welding. CONSTITUTION:The pressure-welded parts of metallic plates 1, 2 of thick plates are prepared to have edges of which the slopes end at 1/2 the plate thickness and the angles assumed by both slopes are 90-120 deg.. The pressure welded parts 3 of 1/2 the plate thickness are brought closer to each other and are pressure- welded by high frequency welding. The overhung beads are machined and are leveled off, thence a groove part 4 is subjected to submerged arc welding.
