Abstract

PURPOSE: To largely improve the smoothness of a coated film and remarkably enhance the degree of surface roughness of the coated film by a method wherein a coating material containing magnetic particles, inorganic pigments and the like is coated on a substrate, and the resulting coated film is passed through a solvent atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: The substrate 2 wound up around a supply reel 1 is fed into a coating head consisting of rolls 5, 6, 7, 8 through a guide roll 3, and the coating material 4 is coated on the surface of the substrate 2 in the coating head to form a coated film on the substrate 2. The substrate 9 provided with the coated film thereon is passed through a plate 12 via guide rolls 10, 11, at which time the substrate 9 is introduced into the solvent atmosphere 14 with its surface being pressed flat against the plate 12 by evacuating gases through an evacuation hole 13. In this process, the surface of the coated film is made flat, followed by introducing into a drying oven 15 and drying with hot air 16. An organic solvent such as those based on benzene, a ketone or an alcohol is used as the solvent in the atmosphere 14.
