Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce direct-current magnetization noises and modulation noises by applying a magnetic coating material twice by using two gravure cylinders when manufacturing a magnetic medium by using a long base.
CONSTITUTION: Gravure cylinders 3' and 3" are arranged on base film 2 in contact with drier 8' between the both. From supply nozzles 5' and 5", magnetic coating materials 4' and 4" are applied on film 2 fed from roll 1 by cylinders 3' and 3". Smoothing rollers 7' and 7" smoothes the film to an even thickness and coatings 6' and 6" are dried by driers 8' and 8" and wound around roll 9. Surface grooves of rollers 3' and 3" and their axis lines contain angles (α) and (β). For example, α=45° and β=135° are fixed and grooves of 0.2 and 0.10mm in depth of cylinders 3' and 3" are made at piches of 45/2.5cm and 95/2.5cm respectively. Thicknesses of coatings 6' and 6" are set by cylinders 3' and 3" and nozzles 5 and 5" to design ones. In this way, magnetic powder is dispersed uniformly to reduce noises.
