Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the ignition timing not to exceed upper limit temperature of an O2 sensor in engine control using the O2 sensor, by advancing an angle of the timing in accordance with engine speed and intake air quantity when exhaust temperature continuously exceeds a preset reference value by the prescribed speed (N). CONSTITUTION:When an engine is started, its speed is set to 0 in a step 30, and exhaust temperature is detected and compared with a reset reference value at every 50msec in a step 32, then 1 is added to N at each time the temperature exceeds the preset reference value. An interruption routine is started synchronously with speed of the engine. When the speed N is not less than 5, the ignition timing is controlled its angle advanced in a step 41. Further in a step 40, an advance angle is corrected in case of continuous speed N not less than 5 times when the exhaust temperature is not less than the preset reference as a result of decision, then hunting operation can be prevented to improve drivability. In this way, the exhaust temperature can be limited even in a range high loaded at high speed.
