Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine by controlling the ignition timing by a distributor in accordance with fundamental characteristic without knocking control in the state that the engine temperature and suction air temperature are low. CONSTITUTION:Engine and suction air temperature are detected by temperature sensors 17, 18 respectively. The ignition timing is set by a distributor 5 in accordance with ignition timing characteristic in the state that the engine and suction air temperatures are low. When the engine and suction air temperatures become higher than the prescribed value, a knocking feed back is achieved, thereby controlling the ignition timing. In this manner, when the temperature is low and the load is small, the power and fuel consumption ratio can be improved.
