Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the selectivity of the titled compound in the liquid-phase oxidation of cyclohexene with molecular oxygen in the presence of a soluble vanadium compound catalyst, by carrying out the reaction in the presence of cyclohex-2-en-1-ol porduced as a by-product.
CONSTITUTION: 2,3-Epoxycyclohexan-1-ol is prepared by the liquid-phase oxidation of cyclohexene and cyclohex-2-en-1-ol with molecular oxygen in the presence of a soluble vanadium compound catalyst. In the above reaction, the mixture of the by-produced cyclohexeneoxide (A), cyclohex-2-en-1-one (B) and cyclohex-2-en- 1-ol (C) is, if necessary after separating the compound A, recycled to the reaction system to convert the compound C in the mixture to the objective compound. When the compounds A and B which are inert to the reaction are converted to the compound C by conventional method, and recycled to the reaction system, the yield of the objective compound can be further improved.
