Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as coenzyme Q, etc., by reacting a novel compound such as 2,3-dimethoxy-4-decaprenoxy-6-methylphenol, with a Lewis acid, and if necessary, hydrolyzing and/or oxidizing the product.
CONSTITUTION: A novel compound of formula I (R1 is H or OH-protecting group which has no concern with the reaction; R2 is methyl or methoxy; n is 1W10) is made to react with a Lewis acid pref. in the presence of a compound of formula II, and the produced compound is if necessary hydrolyzed and/or oxidized to afford a hydroquinone derivative of formula III or a quinone derivative or formula IV (e.g. 2,3-dimethoxy-5-decaprenyl-6-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone).
EFFECT: The rearrangement reaction can be carried out under mild conditions, in high selectivity of the position and high yield. The separation of the product is easy, and the reaction proceeds without using a material having detrimental effect to the human body.
