Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an aldehyde, easily, economically, safely, in high yield and selectivity, by reacting a compound having olefinic carbon to carbon double bond with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising a tungsten compound and a boron compound.
CONSTITUTION: An aldehyde is prepared by reacting a compound of formulaI [R1 and R2 are H, 1W18C alkyl or alkyl substituted with halogen, OH, etc.; R1 and R2 may together form a ring (R3)] having an olefinic carbon-carbon double bond with hydrogen peroxide, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a tungsten compound[e.g. WO2, W(SO4)3, etc.]and a boron compound (e.g. boron oxide, boric acid, etc.), at -40W+80°C, pref. -20W+60°C.The process is suitable for the production of dial from cycloolefin. The produced aldehyde is not oxidized to the carboxylic acid nor consumed by condensation reaction.
